Neighborhood Connections Funds Westside Community Youth Art Show

Friday, November 15, 2013

The Westside Community Youth Art Show began in 2005 when a few neighborhood art teachers wanted to celebrate their students art work and support arts and culture in the Detroit/Shoreway Neighborhood.  A main goal was gathering students, teachers and families from many schools with showcasing art and creativity as the goal.   The 2012 show schools included:
Clark Elementary
Gallagher School
Metro Catholic School
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School
Thomas Jefferson School
Urban Community School
Waverly Valley View School
Watterson-Lake School

The event was first sponsored by the Ward 17 Forum and Councilman Matt Zone.  The show takes place in a public location so all school communities are equal participants.  Each school contributes 25-30 entries. Art teachers from participating schools organize and market the show.

The show participants and volunteers have grown each year.  The organizing group has developed its own logo and marketing plan.
